MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - V8 SPECIALIST'S

I am seriously considering putting a V8 in my 1974 MGB
Roadster. Can anyone supply the names/tel nos. of any
reputable workshops in the Home Counties who i should consider for the work. Also the million dollar question, within a couple of grand , what sort of price am i looking at.

Many thanks

Philip.

Dave Vale at V8 Conversions in Farnborough Kent are specialists and seem to be well spoken of. If you want a quality one-man-band who has done 2 or 3 in the past and is much cheaper than a commercial premises type of place, Martin White in Bracknell may be your man, email me for details.

I can thoroughly recommend:-

Martin Cawte
The Barn - Abingdon Sports Cars Ltd
Culverlands Corner
Shedfield
Southampton SO32 2JF
Telephone 01329 835393
Contact Martin Cawte Alan Reed

Shedfield is more Fareham than Southampton despite the address.

Martin did major work on my BGT V8 some years ago, and has since maintained this car and my RV8, to my total satisfaction.

No connection other than a satisfied customer.

Philip,

You could try Doug Smith - MG Motorsport
Maidstone Sportscars- Trevor Taylor.

The estimate for the Supersport is £30k so will depend on spec and how much work you can do yourself.

Also, worthwhile reading How to give your MGB V8 Power.

I do V8 conversions to your specification.

As a minimum you will need the engine - rebuilt basic 3.5litre(£1500), engine mounts (£75), radiator(£120), hoses (£40), exhaust (£400), induction (£200), carb(s) (£300), flywheel (£75), clutch (£100), gearbox - 5 speed SDI (£500), propshaft (£120), axle (£600), front brakes (£200) and anti roll bar (£30).

Plus all the little odd sods like recalibrating the speedo and tacho, cables, brackets, pulleys, fan belt, fans & motors, etc, ..... add another £250.

This gives a total of £4,500 plus around £1,000 to fit it - it takes around 40 hours over a period of 8 weeks to do.

I am working on a M16 conversion kit which will give around 140 bhp (V8 190 bhp) for about £1500 fitted - this will be a fully rebuilt engine which will mate up to the standard box. A nut and bolt job that will take just a day to do.

I intend to get this kit worked up during the summer - watch this space.
