MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - V8 Speedo conversion
Does any one know of a way to re calibrate an MGB1800 speedo for use with V8 converted car? The speedo is a 100mm unit from 1970. The gearbox i'm using is a Rover SD1 5 speed manual. Are there any gears available to convert the gauge myself, if so how do I work out which ones i need. Any Ideas? Andy |

They make up a little box of gears that goes somewhere in the speedo cable. Firstly however you need to find someone with a good calibrated speedo, follow them for a measured 5 or 10 km and note the reading on your odometer ie 8.5 or 11.2 miles, whatever. Then do the math. With a toyota supra box and 15 in wheels with 60's on them its 0.7 to the km. |

Speedy Cables do not put a gearbox into the drive cable - the speedo is actually recalibrated to suit your gearbox, final drive and tyres. One can then use a speedo cable available from one of the specialists to mate the Rover gearbox with the MG speedo head. |

I have used Speedograph Richfield in the past; at one time they were very slow, but I understand that things have improved. http://www.speedograph-richfield.co.uk/ They will recalibrate a speedo for you, make a new dial with increased deflection, and provide you with precisely the cables you require. http://www.speedograph-richfield.co.uk/ NJSS |
