MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - WEST COAST V8 Show

Hello everyone. I have been chatting briefly with Dan Masters about the possibility of a West Coast in the future. (OK it would be up here in the Northwest US). No location or date have even been considered as of yet.

I would like to get a sense of the "demand" or interest in this. PLEASE post your thoughts, encouragement, etc preferably here in this post so all can see, but email also works.

We have 8-10 Conversion cars locally that I am sure would all attend, and I have seen a Factory V8 running around on ocassion.

That would be great! Just about anywhere out west would work. Past couple of years we have been back to the mid west, and have had a fun time, and made new friends. I'm not sure if I could talk the better half into another long (yawn) drive though Montana this year!
The MGC resister is having an East and West coast event this year, it will be interesting to see how it works out.

Morning Bill!! I HOPE your pulling your car out for any running around you are doing, it is GORGEOUS down here. I have to go cut and install new Plug wires in mine in a few minutes.

I am all for taking charge and organizing one up here if there is enough interest. Trying to organize one out of this area would be beyond my abilities though.

I'll do it, just so long as I do not have to have my car sitting next to yours of your dads!!
Larry Embrey

I'll go,sounds great. There is getting to be a lot of MGV8 interest in the North West.

Great idea, Larry. I know there are a few v8er's in AZ on the board and I've seen an original V8 GT that's from the Tucson area. Thought of a place, yet? How about Reno? I know my bride would be interested in going there, but we'll attend where ever it is, schedule permitting.

That sounds great, my v8 is running and there is at list another in the planing stages now, Reno sounds good to me.

Well I don't have the ability or contacts to try and organize a meet outside my area. I was thinking somewere between Seattle and Portland..
Larry Embrey

Larry, Your idea is great. I would vote for Reno also, simply because it's closer. I'm not sure how many there are in Ca. Hopefully, mine will be ready.
You will accept 3.4L V6's won't you?

Larry,

The North American MGA Register GT-28 will be in Portland next year and is open to all MGs. Maybe we could join up with them.

Portland is good.

If there is interest, why not have one in the Pacific Northwest and another in the Southwest?

What time of the year would the event be held? The reason I'm asking is I just drove my '79B V8 to Phoenix from the Cleveland area in April and it was really getting hot. Reno, I'm assuming would be similar in weather conditions. My vote would be in Spring or Fall.

The V8 preformed very good until on the way home...while driving along at just about dark in Oklahoma, cruise control set at 70, top down, a deer tried to occupy the same space. Luckily, I hit the deer square on and it flew over the top of the car, sure glad it missed the windsheld.

I was able to drive the car home after a local body shop helped me get the hood open.(with a large crowbar) I was able to adjust (bend)the front pusher fans so they didn't hit the radiator. I am now replacing the hood and front fenders.

Anyways, I would be willing to drive West agiain to attend a V8 meeting.

Larry,
Sounds GREAT!!!!!! My vote is in the Seattle - Portland area. I assume that were talking 2003?
I'll be there, and I'll drag everyone from this area with me.
Steve Carrick

Reno is a good choice, it would split the difference between the Pacific Northwest and the Southwest. Even better is South Lake Tahoe. Our local MG Club sponsored two meets there in the last 10 years (the NAMGBR MG'95 event, and a NAMGAR get together a few years later). Beautiful scenery, temperate Mountain climate, and little chance of rain if the event is held in the summer.

A really successful meet requires lots of planning. 2003 might be too early.

Cheers,

I am just doing prelim lokos right now. Dan was talking about Either his area or someplace more this side of the country for 2003. I just wanted ot get some reation ot having one up here. The idea of a NW and SW is interesting. Like I said trying to organize a meet outside my area is well beyond my abilities, even portland will be tough, but at least I am within 2hrs of that..
