MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Whats a nice cheap welder Mig/tig

The welder needs to run off of regualer fused house 115v electric.

I just bought a MIG from my local welding supply house. Lincoln model SP-175 for $729. What a difference after welding stick for the last 25 years. That is a 230 volt model but they have one that runs on 115 for $589. Add the cost of the bottle, another $100. I don't know what you consider cheap. They have a Millermatic for $569. If you are welding the body on your B, it looks like the MIG is the best way to go but if you want really cheap, Harbor Freight Tools has welders as cheap as $79 and a Hobart MIG for $499.

For body work I would HIGHLY recommend using gas. the typical flux cored Mig does produce a good amount of splatter more than a gas fed will.. just an idea..

Hey watch ebay. I got a nice Centure 120V wire feed MIG that is already internally plumbed for gas. all I ned is a gerulator and a bottle.. I spent $350 shipped to my door, and found out it had hardly been used!! Almost new spool of wire on it that was the one it came from factory with!!!!

A couple of years ago I bought a Century model which uses 110V, has 4 heat settings, and came with the set up for the gas. It also included a cart for the welder and the gas cylinder (20 cu ft.)

It was on special for $300 at a local Farm supply store, and there was an additional 10% if you opened an account. I did so and got the whole package for $270. Typically this level of machine would be $350 or so not including a cart. Although I have not used it too much, it looks like it will be just right for the welding I intend to do (floor pans, sills, etc.)

I got a gas cylinder (filled) from Cyberweld.com. The price included free shipping and it showed up in about 3 days.

Also check out Eastwood.com for their Lincoln Weldpack and Migpack kits. My Century is very similat to the 110V version.

In summary these welders have become very affordable and are quite easy to use.

I purchased a 110 volt Millermatic MIG welder about 4 years ago. The complete setup with a full gas bottle, helmet, etc was about $600. It is an excellent welder for most light-duty welding. Very easy to use; no weld splatter.

I don't know very much about welders but can certainly see the need for one. I am sort of on the lookout for a welder but really don't know what to buy. From this thread I am getting the idea that the way to go is to get a MIG welder that use's gas?. My shop has 220V so that is not a problem?

One thing I HIGHLY recommend and was recommended to me NO MATTER IF GAS OR FLUX, get a welder with INFINITE heat/voltage setting. the 4 set heat units work ok, but with the thin sheetmetal having the infinite setting is difference between a nice weld and burning through.
