MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Where to get a Ford rear end for an MG???

Where can I have a Ford 8" rear end cut but rigged to take the regular MGB rear brakes? I know exactly what I want (posi 3.25, whole thing powdercoated black) but everyone I have talked to wants to sell me one with god&*%^ Ford rear brakes. I don't _want_ Ford rear brakes ... I don't even want disc brakes ... I don't care if the swept area's the same ... doesn't even need discussing!

(NB I want to get one cut to length halfway between the MG wire wheel axle and that of the bolt-on axle ... the wire wheel ones are a little too narrow, I think, unless you use really big tires or wheels with less-than-stock offset, and the bolt-on ones are too wide unless you wanna flare the fenders, which I do not. I believe this means 50.25" flange to flange.)

Any suggestions as to who to call, and how much I should expect to spend?

Ted,
I built my own rear end exactly as you describe. The stock MG tubes slide right in the 8" center,so everything from the center section outboard is stock MG.I fabricated axles from stock Ford truck units myself, but they machine very hard and might cost you a lot to have made.Look in the newsletter index for the how-to article on it for more info.I've had mine for 4 years or so now behind a 325 hp 302 with no problems. And sorry,no I would not want to do another one!

Years ago I had a man sell me a M G ford 8 inch rear that the M G axel tube slid in the ford case were the ford tube was cut off. Sounds good BUT I was having the B rear wheel bearings leave in short order! I went to Mosser axel in Richmond In. & thay set me up with the info. to make up a jig to make the case right on type straight, now I have no wheel bearing problems like I use to.

An easy way to make sure you weld the tubes in straight is to make run a 2" dia drill rod through bushings that replace the wheel brgs.I made mine with 1/2 to 1 thou clearance on the shaft, bolted it in the car, tacked it,and had a professional welder finish it off the car.The bar slides perfectly through the bushings and I've never had any problems.I think I still have that bar and bushings stashed somewhere if anyone wants to borrow them.Dale

I have over 75,000 miles on one of Glenn Towery's 8" Ford/ MGB hybrid rears, 3.55 non-posi with no problems, no seal leaks. The axles were from Mosler, to Glenn's specs, I furnished the center section.
