A very sneaky way to adverise your product Dan :-)
Dan are you saying that Painless is not good or that your kit is better than Painless and others.
There is no a problem conecting the the wires to the MGB sw it's very straight foward and with the marked wires makes it easy.
Are you wires marked? or just color coded.
Your wiring kit looks good and am sure it works well.
Anything is better than the stock wiring.

Does your kit handle AC, power windows and extra lights? I am in the market for a wiring kit.
I am asking questions that may help sell your kit.

Thanks
Paul

Good stuff Dan - I am sure many owners will welcome these.

Any chance of adding the B GT V8 please?
Nigel Steward

Paul,

Actually, posting these diagrams will cost me business if any thing. People who might otherwise want to buy a harness from me may decide instead to keep the wiring stock if they can find good achematics. Anyone who chooses to buy an aftermarket kit, mine or others, will have no need for the stock diagrams. I posted these purely as a favor for my friends. I posted Triumph diagrams, in B&W, long before I started producing the kits. I spent an enormous amount of time making these diagrams, and I'll get absolutely nothing in return for my effort except the good will of my MG and Triumph friends, which is all I ask.

No, I'm not saying Painless is no good - it is an excellent product. I'm just saying their kit is not as well suited to an MGB as mine. In particular, their instructions are not nearly as well though out as pertains to MG or Triumph, and their tech support won't be a lot of help, as they don't deal with our cars very often. Some of the other wiring kits simply won't work with any car that doesn't use a GM steering column.

The turn signal instructions, for example, show you with pictures how to connect each color wire to each pin of the GM turn signal connector, with no instructions whatever as how to wire to any other turn signal switches. Believe me, there is a difference.

The wires in my kits are color coded with the correct Lucas colors. The color markers on my wires are spiraled around the wire, rather than along the length of the wire as stock. This makes it much easier to find the color marker on a wire buried in a bundle in the harness. Printed labels are a good help when doing the initial installation, but not all that much help when trouble shooting later. I could go into detail on this, but I've already gone on too long.

None of the other kits supply a complete wiring diagram for the finished product, as I do.

If you buy a sound system, A/C, power windows, etc, they will come with all the wiring you need to install them. All that is required from a wiring kit is a power source for them. Painless and others provide extra fuses for this, but I don't. You'll need to use the fuses that come with the extras you want to add, or buy one of our auxiliary kits.

What we do supply is 7 relays to protect your expensive switches (other kits supply only 2 relays), 8 fuses (ample for most MGB/Triumph installations - most simply don't need nor can use 12, 18, or 21 fuses that are the standard), and MGB or Triumph specific instructions and tech support.

Two of my customers had bought Painless wiring kits and returned them out of frustration trying to figure out how to make them fit an MG or Triumph and bought one of mine instead.

I didn't mean to rant, and I know you were speaking in jest, but I thought I should clear the air in case others might have a problem with me posting the link to the diagrams on here. I put the diagrams on that web site because I own it and have control over it, and it was a convenient place to put them.

Nigel,

MGBGT V8 diagrams are in the works, as are MGC diagrams.

I just completed rewiring my MGB V8 conversion using Dan's kit --it is a straight forward installation with the colour coding and is a great system --I am a well satisfied customer.
And a big plus is that Dan is avail;able for trouble shooting.
Gil Price

Thanks Dan, looks great. Much easier to follow than the ones in my manual.
Bill Young

Wow!

That is really something that a looong time Triumph man would waste all that time doodling around with MGB schematics.

Thanks, Dan!

Now get your priorities straight and get back to working on your TR6 V8. :)

Carl,

Actually, I've owned an MGB almost as long as I've owned a Triumph. But you're right, I do need to quit this kind of nonsense and get to work on my own projects.
Dan Masters

Dan, I surely appreciate all the work that went into gathering the wiring diagrams. It has been my experience that the Haynes Manual for the US spec late model does not match that of a 1978 MGB. An auto mechanic electrical specialist frien of mine brought a factory manual diagram that differed greatly from the Haynes diagram that I had in my Haynes manual. His diagrams matched my car exactly prior to the V8 install while the Haynes one did not.

Paul...

I have one of Dan's harnesses in my 1974.5 MGB/GT V8 conversion.

Dan asked me details of what I needed...ie; elevtric mirrors, how big of a sound system; I have a high external third brake light; extra cigar lighter/accessory outlet, etc....

The harness was custom made to my needs and specifications.

I had a Painless harness already purchased and ready to install. Dan's harness is by far superior, IN MY OPINION.

FWIW..

And Dan....THANK YOU for sharing!

SEE YOU AT BRITISH V8 2005 from June 9-12 in Terre Haute, Indiana....it's The Driving Event of 2005!

Just a note to say that Dan knows I have a Painless
wiring kit but he has freely given me many answers to my electrical questions on my MGB V8 wiring.

Yeah, Dan, I vaguely remember a GT in your past. ;)

Speaking of "sharing", please seek out a copy of the current MG Driver for a pic of Rick back in the day. :) :)

Dan, you have my thanks. I already used your diagram #10, and have it taped over the diagram #11 in my Bentley manual. If you lived nearby I'd give you a pat on the back and buy you a Guiness!
Jeff Schlemmer

Jeff,

Come to Terre Haute next month, you can buy me a Guiness there. Or I'll buy you one. Either way, you should be there.

So should the rest of you!
Dan Masters

Guiness! ! ! Reminds me of sad news. The Nisbet Inn in Windsor,Ontario,Canada where we have held the Windsor-Detroit MG Club meetings on odd months(Detroit in
even mos)for many years is closing. Wed.May 11 is our last meeting there. On meeting night the big black Guiness truck pulls up and when the driver walks in, he is greeted to loud applause. :-)

Jack..

I have it on good authority that you will be visited by "the Merry Canadian" (Drew Hastings)and his sidekick, Graham Creswick for this " wake".

See you in Terre Haute!!!!!!!!!!!!
